No problem, We've got some really difficult teams out of the way and now we've got a few easy ones ahead!īy December 2nd we will have less points as at the same stage last season. I fully support loans with an option to buy. Something has changed big time from the end of last season to the start of this one, I am sure we can all agree on that at least. It was nice to see him play for us last year, but not so nice this year to see what I believe is a problem tactically caused by him not being around anymore. A big part of that problem is we don’t have anyone remotely similar to RLC in the squad this year. I believe we are unable to carve out any clear goal scoring opportunities right now because our midfield is not functioning as it did towards the back end of last season, as per that Leicester game. When you build systems around temporary players you are going to struggle when they leave. If we get in similar types of players each year then this could be called a long term strategy, trouble is we don’t do anything like that. On the whole our loan business has been poor. Why he isn't starting I have no idea but we did replace Cabaye.Ībsolutely agree but where is our strong, skillful, high quality midfield player for this loan season? Meyer played the holding role for Shalke last season. Time to have a long term strategy at our club, and that should not include loaning world class players we cannot buy IMHO. I would rather just have 1 hole in midfield, rather than a 2nd one which is self inflicted. We had so long to replace both players and we failed, based on how things look currently. We havent replaced Cabaye which is criminal (we have some career criminals working in our player recruitment dept) but the lack of power, dynamism, great passing and forward thinking from RLC is really hurting us. Just watch that Leicester game, I know its only 1 game, and their heads dropped and they went down to 10, but the way we passed and moved in that game was a million miles from what we saw yesterday. If the guy does well, especially in the opponents half, then he disappears there is going to be a hangover period. Its the ultimate in short term, lack of "joined up" thinking. Hoping for such a player to be really successful at the club seems totally counter intuitive to me. When you get someone like RLC in you basically have a 10% chance of getting them permanently, if that. I definitely get that sentiment but how often do managers, players and ex-players talk about familiarity with teammates being a huge factor. If we hadn’t used the loan system we’d probably still be in the Championship ! Wilf was our best loan ever without doubt! If you accept that we will have 1-2 quality loan signings each season then it's not a short term fix, it's part of our strategy to have a squad that can compete in the Prem and fits our finances. I do agree that clubs should be limited in the number of players that they can loan out and believe that the authorities are looking at this at the moment which will be extremely painful for Chelsea who have over 40 players out on loanįrickin Saweet South Cronx 08 Oct 18 9.20am Our problem is that we haven't used the system as well as some of the other clubs and we take on strikers with a terrible record of injuries then complain when he's out for most of the season injured. I disagree with "Loaning players you cannot buy, a fools errand" as if one uses the system well it benefits all parties. I disagree, Luka is making un forced errors nothing to do with cabaye. Loaning players from big clubs is great for the player and the big club, but If we don’t have an option to buy it’s a short term move for us that can then bite us hard. Getting these loan players in looks great at face value but when you start to rely on them, and they become integral to your system, you have to expect a hangover when they disappear. Now we have not only a Cabaye shaped hole, which is impacting Luka big time, but we have a massive gap where RLC was. Getting loan players in that you cannot buy is the ultimate short term move in football. Go back and watch the 5-0 against Leicester and you will see just how important and quality the guy was for us. We are missing Cabaye this year but I think we are missing RLC more. I said at the time we got TFM and RLC in that getting high quality loan players is a double edged sword.
